Man Arrested for Breaking Into Home

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies on Wednesday, February 19 arrested a 27-year-old Lexington man on charges that the man broke into a garage that was attached to a home on Star Hill Lane near Lexington and stole one electrical power extension cord, one battery-powered leaf blower and one battery-powered weed eater.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested John Isaac Dytrych, 27, of 1601 West Main Street, Lot 12, Lexington, on an arrest warrant on a charge of first-degree burglary. Deputies also charged Dytrych with second-offense driving a motor vehicle with a driver’s license that had been suspended. Dytrych was being held on Thursday, February 20 at the Lexington County Detention Center on bail totaling $15,000.

An arrest warrant alleges that at about 5:56 a.m. on Wednesday Dytrych forced open the door of the garage that is attached to the Star Hill Lane home and stole one battery-powered Black and Decker leaf blower, one battery-powered Black and Decker weed eater and one electrical power extension cord that were worth a combined total of $115, Metts said. It appeared that Dytrych also tried to break into the home.

The homeowner heard someone break into the garage that is attached to her home and reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Department, Metts said. The homeowner provided deputies with a description of a white 1999 Chevrolet Astro work van that the homeowner saw drive away from her home following the burglary.

Deputies encountered the work van on Persimmon Drive and conducted a traffic stop on the van at the intersection of Persimmon Drive and Persimmon Lane, Metts said.

Deputies found that Dytrych was wearing black gloves and driving the work van, Metts said. Deputies placed Dytrych in investigative detention and determined that Dytrych was driving the van with a South Carolina driver’s license that had been suspended.

Deputies found the leaf blower, weed eater and electrical power extension cord, which had been reported stolen from the garage at the Star Hill Lane home, in the work van, Metts said. Deputies also found a small flashlight on Dytrych’s person while they searched Dytrych incident to his arrest.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Dytrych to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
