Deputies Donate Nearly 8,000 Pounds of Food and More Than 900 Toys

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies in partnership with businesses, homeowners’ associations and neighborhood watch groups donated 7,951 pounds of non-perishable food items and 960 toys and bicycles that the Sheriff’s Department collected during the agency’s 2013 holiday food and toy drive.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies provided clothes and toys in December 2013 to 163 children in Lexington County who needed assistance. Deputies also provided non-perishable food items to 42 families in Lexington County who needed assistance.

Metts thanked the following businesses and organizations for making donations to the 2013 holiday food and toy drive: Amazon.com, Columbia Classic Chevy Club, Edmund Recycling, Food Lion grocery store in Lexington, Piggly Wiggly, Publix, Reid’s Groceries in Batesburg-Leesville and Wal-Mart Supercenter in the Red Bank community.

The donation of clothes, non-perishable food items and toys to persons in Lexington County who were in need of assistance reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
