Deputies Donate More than 300 Coats, 1,400 Pounds of Food and 400 Toys to Lexington Interfaith Community Services

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies on Wednesday, December 18 donated 326 winter coats, 52 pairs of socks, 32 pairs of gloves, 26 sweater caps, 16 scarves and eight pairs of leggings to Lexington Interfaith Community Services (LICS), which will distribute the garments to children in Lexington County who are in need of assistance. The winter garments were donated to the Sheriff’s Department during the agency’s fourth annual Coats for Kids drive.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies also donated 1,400 pounds of non-perishable food items and 400 new, unwrapped toys that LICS will distribute to persons in Lexington County who are in need of assistance. In addition, deputies donated 175 winter coats to His House Ministries, 4357 Augusta Road, Lexington.

Three Fountains Resident Deputy Stacey Gadson coordinated the Coats for Kids drive in partnership with Rocky Creek Elementary School, Pleasant Hill Middle School, Lexington County Solid Waste Management Division, Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission, Tri-City Leisure Center and the Timberlake Plantation Owners Association near Chapin, Metts said. The donation to LICS reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County.
