Deputies Arrest Two Persons for Breaking Into Home

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies on Saturday, July 27 arrested a 25-year-old Gilbert woman and a 34-year-old Gilbert man on charges that they broke into a home on Main Street in Gilbert on July 18 and were caught in the act on Saturday of unlawfully removing the sheet metal roof of a storage building outside the same residence on Main Street.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Jennifer Hatchell, 25, of 614 Main Street, Gilbert, and Jeremy Earl Warner, 34, of 1428 Marcellus Road, Gilbert, on charges of third-degree burglary, petit larceny, obtaining ferrous metals unlawfully and possessing implements that are capable of being used to commit a crime. Hatchell and Warner were being held on Monday, July 29 at the Lexington County Detention Center on bail totaling $27,130 each. Warner is Hatchell’s boyfriend and the father of Hatchell’s child.

At about 12:25 p.m. on Saturday, deputies went to the home on Main Street in order to investigate suspicious activity that had been reported at the residence, Metts said. Deputies encountered Hatchell walking out of the home’s back porch, with a crowbar in one of her hands.

Deputies found Warner in woods near the storage building outside the home, Metts said. Portions of the sheet metal roof on the storage building had been removed, with sheet metal piled by the building. Deputies found a backpack in Hatchell’s possession that contained one hammer, tin snips, one screwdriver, one prying tool and one flashlight.

Deputies found that multiple holes had been cut in the drywall and living room floor in the Main Street home in order to remove copper wire, Metts said. Holes also had been cut in the bathroom floor in order to remove copper pipes that connect to the home’s water heater.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Hatchell or Warner to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
