Officers Seize Methamphetamine Laboratory and Arrest Six Persons

Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) on Friday, July 26 seized a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory that was being operated at a home on Redmond Road near Lexington. Officers arrested three men and three women on charges that they operated the methamphetamine laboratory that officers found at the home.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said NET officers arrested George Edward Brinson, 41, of 1465 Redmond Road, Lexington; Terri Lee Egert, 52, of 172 Buck Corley Road, Lexington; Trudy Rene Escue, 33, of 150 Clermont Lakes Drive, Lexington; Konni Linn Owens, 41, of 223 Mimosa Drive, Gaston; Robert Eric Owens, Jr., 18, of 223 Mimosa Drive, Gaston; and Anthony Carl Rowell, 46, of 940 Glenn Street, West Columbia. Brinson, Egert, Escue, Konni Owens, Robert Eric Owens, Jr., and Rowell each were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine.

Brinson, Egert, Escue, Konni Owens and Robert Eric Owens, Jr., were being held on Sunday, July 28 at the Lexington County Detention Center on bail totaling $30,000 each, Metts said. Rowell was being held on Sunday at the county Detention Center on bail totaling $60,000.

At about 9:54 p.m. on Friday, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies went to a home at 1473 Redmond Road in order to investigate information that a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory was being operated at the residence, Metts said. Deputies detected a strong chemical odor emanating from the home that they recognized from training that they had received as an indication that a methamphetamine laboratory was being operated at the residence.

Deputies placed Brinson, Egert, Escue, Konni Owens, Richard Eric Owens, Jr., who is the son of Konni Owens, and Rowell in investigative detention at the Redmond Road home, Metts said. Deputies requested assistance from NET officers to further investigate the clandestine methamphetamine laboratory that deputies found at the Redmond Road home. NET officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and executed the search warrant at the home.

NET officers found that a surveillance camera system was operating at the Redmond Road home, with images from the surveillance camera system being displayed live on a television set in the living room, Metts said. Officers found a large amount of trash from a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in the living room as well as a thick haze that filled the home.

Officers found one reaction vessel that actively was being used to manufacture methamphetamine at the Redmond Road home as well as one reaction vessel that previously had been used to manufacture methamphetamine, Metts said. Officers also found methamphetamine and marijuana at the residence.

NET officers dismantled the clandestine methamphetamine laboratories that had been set up at the Redmond Road home and safely removed all items that were associated with the methamphetamine laboratories, Metts said.

Metts asked anyone with information about illegal drug activity in Lexington County to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).

NET is comprised of officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and Lexington Police Department, Metts said. The sheriff and municipal police chiefs implemented NET in 2001 in order to enhance drug enforcement in Lexington County.
