National Night Out
In two weeks, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department resident deputies and deputies will participate in 20 events that neighborhood watch groups will conduct on the evening of Tuesday, August 6 as part of National Night Out.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said resident deputies urged neighborhood watch groups to participate in National Night Out in order to show criminals that citizens are vigilant in protecting their neighborhoods. National Night Out places criminals on notice that citizens work in partnership with law enforcement to remove opportunities for criminals to commit crimes.
“Criminals always lose when citizens participate in neighborhood watch groups and become empowered to combat crime by being smart, being ready and being alert,” Metts said.
In the North Region Patrol District, which is based near Irmo, resident deputies will participate in 11 events, Metts said.
Metts said neighborhood watch groups will conduct National Night Out events at 200 Century Drive in the Hallmark subdivision near Irmo, 200 Stratton Court in the Stratton Place subdivision near Irmo, Char Oak Drive in The Woods subdivision near Irmo, Willow Winds Drive in the Willow Winds subdivision near Irmo, Ashland Road in the Woodland Hills subdivision near Irmo, Bush River Road in the Woodland Village Apartments near Irmo, Seawright Road in the Pine Glen subdivision near Irmo and Seven Oaks Park on Leisure Lane near the Whitehall Extension subdivision in the Irmo community.
Neighborhood watch groups also will conduct National Night Out events on Blossom View Court in the Magnolia Ridge subdivision near West Columbia and on Old Barnwell Road in the Barnwell Estates subdivision near West Columbia, Metts said. In addition, deputies will participate in the Second Annual Chapin National Night Out in the parking lot of Chapin Furniture, 1150 Chapin Road, Chapin.
In the West Region Patrol District which is based near Gilbert, resident deputies will participate in four events, Metts said.
Neighborhood watch groups in partnership with Wal-Mart will conduct a National Night Out event in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart Supercenter at 1780 South Lake Drive near Lexington, Metts said. Deputies also will participate in a Batesburg-Leesville community event at 427 College Street in Batesburg-Leesville.
Neighborhood watch groups will conduct National Night Out events on Lake Village Road in the Harbour Watch subdivision near Gilbert and in the Heritage Farm subdivision near Lexington, Metts said.
In the South Region Patrol District, which is based in Pelion, resident deputies will participate in five events, Metts said.
Neighborhood watch groups will conduct National Night Out events on Carlisle Street in Gaston, Wayne Street near Lexington, the Aberdeen Farms subdivision near Lexington, Rish Drive near Lexington and Lloydwood Drive near West Columbia, Metts said.
The participation of the Sheriff’s Department in National Night Out events reflects the agency’s mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
