Metts promoted Douglas “Doug” Novak, 45, of Lexington, to the rank of sergeant and assigned Novak to supervise forensic services, which include the crime scene investigation unit, drug laboratory and evidence unit. Novak previously served as an investigator in the Major Crimes Unit. On December 14, 1998, Metts appointed Novak to serve as a deputy.

Metts promoted Walter Todd, 39, of Batesburg, to the rank of sergeant and assigned Todd to supervise a shift of correctional officers who oversee inmates in housing units at the Detention Center. On February 26, 2007, Metts appointed Todd to serve as a correctional officer.

Metts promoted Janet Young, 46, of Edgefield, to the rank of sergeant and assigned Young to supervise training for correctional officers at the Detention Center.

Young previously held the rank of master correctional officer and coordinated inmate programs, such as alcohol and drug abuse counseling and job skills programs, at the Detention Center, Metts said. On June 3, 2002, Metts appointed Young to serve as a correctional officer.
