Deputies Arrest Two Additional Persons in Puppy Theft

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies on Sunday, July 21 arrested a 21-year-old Columbia man and 19-year-old Lexington woman on arrest warrants that were issued in connection with the theft on July 8 of a white-and-brown Saint Bernard puppy from an animal adoption center on Orchard Drive near West Columbia. The puppy was returned to the animal adoption center last week.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Malcolm Joshua Dickerson, 21, of 2807 Asel Street, Columbia, turned himself in on Sunday at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington, on an arrest warrant on a charge of petit larceny. Dickerson was released from the Lexington County Detention Center on Sunday after Dickerson posted bail.

Rebecca Michelle Howell, 19, of 223 Sycamore Tree Road, Lexington, also turned herself in on Sunday at the James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex on an arrest warrant on a charge of petit larceny, Metts said. Howell was released from the county Detention Center on Sunday after Howell posted bail.

Kandis Lynn Dease, 20, of 3107 Emanuel Church Road, Lexington, previously turned herself in on Friday, July 20 at the James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex on an arrest warrant on a charge of petit larceny in connection with the theft of the Saint Bernard puppy, Metts said. Dease was released from the county Detention Center on Saturday, July 21 after Dease posted bail.

Arrest warrants allege that at about 5:44 p.m. on July 8 Howell, who was accompanied by Dease and Dickerson, took possession of the white-and-brown Saint Bernard puppy while at the Pets, Inc. animal adoption center at 300 Orchard Drive and left the animal adoption center without making arrangements to adopt the puppy and pay the adoption fee, Metts said. Statements from witnesses and surveillance camera video substantiated that Howell stole the puppy from the animal adoption center while accompanied by Dease and Dickerson.
