Deputies Arrest Man for Breaking Into Motor Vehicle

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested a 21-year-old Chapin man on Wednesday, July 3 on charges that on June 27 the man broke into a motor vehicle that was parked at a home on Timberlake Drive near Chapin. On the morning of the motor vehicle break-in, the 21-year-old man’s blue-and-gray 1990 Dodge Dakota pickup truck was recorded entering the Timberlake subdivision on a surveillance camera system that the Timberlake Plantation Owners Association had installed in order to identify motor vehicles that enter the subdivision.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Riley Brooks Furman, 21, of 120 Greenleaf Circle, Chapin, on an arrest warrant on a charge of breaking into a motor vehicle. Furman was being held on Wednesday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.

An arrest warrant alleges that between 12:01 a.m. and 2 a.m. on June 27 Furman broke into a silver 2012 Ford Mustang that was parked outside a home on Timberlake Drive, Metts said. Furman stole items from the passenger compartment and trunk of the car. Chapin Resident Deputy Kevin Smith later recovered most of the stolen items from Furman.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Furman to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
