Officers Seize Methamphetamine Laboratory

Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) on Tuesday, June 11 seized a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory that was being operated at a home on Blackville Court near Gaston. Officers also arrested two men and three women on charges that they operated the methamphetamine laboratory that officers found at the residence.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said NET officers arrested Christopher Albert Huggins, 29, of 2196 Sharpes Hill Road, Gaston; Jimmy Ferney Johnson, Jr., 38, of 904 Holly Drive, Sumter; Nancy Renee Krantz, 37, of 1220 Blackville Court, Gaston; Robin Farris Krantz, 30, of 1401 Head Street, Columbia; and Olivia Lessie Mason, 37, of 1220 Blackville Court, Gaston.

NET officers arrested Huggins on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, possessing methamphetamine and possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute it, Metts said. Officers arrested Johnson on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine.

NET officers arrested Nancy Krantz on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine and unlawfully disposing of waste from a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory, Metts said. Officers arrested Robin Krantz on charges of third-offense manufacturing methamphetamine and third-offense possession of methamphetamine. Officers arrested Mason on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine and improperly disposing of waste from a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory.

Huggins was released from the Lexington County Detention Center on Wednesday June 12 after posting bail totaling $35,000, Metts said.

Johnson was being held on Thursday, June 13 at the county Detention Center on a $15,000 bond, Metts said. Nancy Krantz and Mason each were being held on Thursday at the county Detention Center on bail totaling $25,000. Robin Krantz was being held on Thursday at the county Detention Center on bail totaling $45,000.

NET officers executed a search warrant at about 7:49 p.m. on Tuesday at a home at 1220 Blackville Court, where Nancy Krantz and Mason reside, Metts said. Officers had received information that a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory was being operated at the residence.

NET officers found items that were used to manufacture methamphetamine in a pile of freshly-cut tree limbs that was being burned in a large burn barrel, Metts said. Officers found a plastic container in Robin Krantz’s purse that contained a small bag of methamphetamine. Officers also found a second bag that contained methamphetamine on Robin Krantz’s person. Officers found a small bag of marijuana on Huggins’ person as well as two coffee filters that contained methamphetamine.

NET officers arrested Huggins, Johnson, Nancy Krantz, Robin Krantz and Mason at the Blackville Court home, Metts said. Officers properly disposed of all items found inside and outside the residence that were used to manufacture methamphetamine.

Metts asked anyone with information about illegal drug activity in Lexington County to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).

NET is comprised of officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and Lexington Police Department, Metts said. The sheriff and municipal police chiefs implemented NET in 2001 in order to enhance drug enforcement in Lexington County.
