Officers Donate More than $5,000 to South Carolina Special Olympics

County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Lexington Police Department officers donated $5,785 to South Carolina Special Olympics. The money reflected proceeds from the fourth annual Cops and Calabash fund raiser.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts and Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green said sheriff’s deputies and Lexington police officers worked as servers during the fund raiser on Wednesday, May 22, Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24 at a Fatz restaurant, 942 East Main Street, Lexington. All proceeds from the fund raiser benefitted South Carolina Special Olympics.

During the Cops and Calabash fund raiser, officers served customers who ate at the restaurant and donated to Special Olympics any cash that customers left at their tables after they finished eating their meals, Metts and Green said. Customers also were able to leave donations for Special Olympics at their dining tables during the fund raiser.

Sgt. Lee Barrett coordinated the participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the Cops and Calabash fund raiser, Metts said. Deputies’ participation in the fund raiser for South Carolina Special Olympics reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County.
