Traffic Division Adopts Highway

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Division deputies will pick up litter at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 22 on Charter Oak Road near U.S. 378 in the Lexington community as part of the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said the Sheriff’s Department Traffic Division recently enrolled in the Adopt-A-Highway program and agreed to regularly pick up litter along Charter Oak Road. This will be the first litter pickup that traffic enforcement deputies will conduct on the road.

The Traffic Division is the second Sheriff’s Department unit to enroll in the Adopt-A-Highway program, Metts said. K-9 Unit deputies enrolled in the program in August 2008 and agreed to regularly pick up litter along Barr Road near Lexington. In the past year, deputies with the K-9 Unit spent more than 11 hours picking up about 570 pounds of trash along Barr Road.

“Deputies are committed to work hard to maintain a good quality of life in Lexington County,” Metts said. “Our agency’s mission is to provide professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County.”
