Truth and Consequences Jail Tour

Correctional officers with the Lexington County Detention Center will conduct a jail tour between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29 for teen-agers who are ages 13 to 18 in order to show children the truth and consequences for bad behavior and poor decision making.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said the jail tour will be limited to a maximum of 40 teen-agers. Parents or legal guardians must call Sgt. Sheralet Taylor at her office at (803) 785-2708 in order to register teen-agers for the jail tour. Parents or legal guardians also can register teen-agers for the jail tour by e-mailing Taylor at staylor@lex-co.com.

In order to participate in the jail tour, teen-agers must be registered and present a student identification card or another government-issued photo identification card, Metts said. The tour will begin in the front lobby at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington.

The goal of the jail tour is to show teen-agers that misbehavior and misconduct have serious, long-term consequences, Metts said. Correctional officers also will discuss the challenges that teen-agers would face if they ever were locked behind bars at a detention facility.
