Dead-Beat Dad in Custody

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies took custody of a 46-year-old Conway man after the man was released from a South Carolina prison and served the man with a family court bench warrant that was issued after the man did not make court-ordered child support payments totaling more than $20,000 in Lexington County.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies transported Ronnie Lee Jackson, 46, of 1709 Hiland Avenue, Conway, to the Lexington County Detention Center at 1:28 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28. Jackson was being held on Thursday, October 1 at the Detention Center while awaiting a hearing in family court to resolve his Lexington County child support case.

Sheriff’s fugitive investigators found Jackson was housed at Kirkland Correctional Institution and placed a detainer on Jackson with the South Carolina Department of Corrections, Metts said. Deputies served Jackson with the family court bench warrant after the Department of Corrections released Jackson upon completion of his sentence of one year and six months for a conviction in Horry County on a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

So far this year, deputies have arrested 86 habitual offenders who did not make a combined total of more than $2.2 million in court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County, Metts said.

Lexington County Clerk of Court Beth Carrigg said a family court judge issued a bench warrant for Jackson’s arrest on August 14, 2007 after Jackson did not make court-ordered child support payments totaling $20,262 in Lexington County.

So far this year, fugitive investigators have served more than 418 family court bench warrants on dead-beat parents who have not made court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County, Metts said. In 2008, investigators served 668 family court bench warrants on persons who did not make court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County.

Non-custodial parents who owe court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County can make arrangements to resolve family court bench warrants that have been issued for their arrests by calling the Clerk of Court’s Office at (803) 785-1196, Carrigg said.

Non-custodial parents who are wanted on family court bench warrants also can surrender at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington, Metts said.
