Homicide Investigation |
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and Lexington County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death of a 21-year-old Gaston man who was fatally shot on Thursday, September 24 at his home on Goodwin Road near Gaston.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives are continuing to investigate who shot Andrew Phillip Powell, 21, of 225 Goodwin Road, Gaston, and why Powell was shot. It appears that the shooting was not a random act.
Deputies arrived at Powell’s home at 4:26 a.m. on Friday, September 25 after Powell’s stepfather, Billy Mack Powell, called the Lexington County Communications Center at about 4:12 a.m. on Friday and reported that he had arrived home at about 4 a.m. on Friday and found that Andrew Powell was not breathing and might be dead, Metts said. Deputies found Andrew Powell lying on his back in the corner of the home’s living room. Andrew Powell was deceased.
Metts asked anyone with information about Andrew Powell or Andrew Powell’s death to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
