Employment of EMT's and paramedics is expected to increase nationally over many years. As the population continues to age and call volumes continue to increase, the need for EMT's and paramedics will continue to increase. To become an EMT, one must complete an EMT course at one of the many technical colleges, which includes classroom and clinical time. To become a paramedic, one must first be certified as an EMT, work for a qualified Service and then complete a formal paramedic program at one of the EMS Regional Training facilities. Certification is needed to become an EMT or paramedic in SC.
